We believe that a successful transition from primary to secondary school is one of the most important steps in a child's education. We are committed to ensuring that every student feels confident, supported and excited about joining our school community.
Our transition programme begins in Year 5, when students from local primary schools are invited to visit us and experience life at KES. These events help children become familiar with our school, meet staff and begin to build confidence about moving to secondary education.
During the summer term of Year 6, a member of our pastoral team visits primary schools to meet students who will be joining us in September. These visits allow us to get to know each child as an individual, answer questions and ensure that the right support is in place from day one.
Before starting at KES, all new Year 7 students attend an Induction Day, held in July. During the day, they meet their tutor and tutor group, make new friends, explore the school site and take part in activities designed to help them feel settled and ready for secondary school.
At the end of the Induction Day, students and their families are invited to attend our Welcome Picnic. This informal event provides an opportunity to meet key members of staff, ask questions, learn more about school life and begin building relationships with other families joining the KES community.
Our aim is simple: to ensure that every child starts Year 7 feeling happy, confident and ready to Dream, Believe and Achieve.
